Le Grand is close to the Merced area, making it a growing area for those traveling to this major city for work and recreation. Though Le Grand is smaller than most cities in the area, traffic still enters the city every hour of the day, leaving opportunities for major crashes. Though drivers are expected to pay close attention to the roads around them, a simple road mistake could still occur and wreak havoc on those involved.
Pedestrians are most at risk for serious and even life-threatening harm in an accident. In fact, many pedestrians lose their lives in Merced County pedestrian accidents each year, especially close to major highways. Though drivers are supposed to watch out for these vulnerable parties, this does not always occur and pedestrian accidents still happen. If you have lost a loved one in a fatal pedestrian accident, it is crucial that you speak with a legal advocate about your options moving forward.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highway 99 in Le Grand Leads to Loss of Life
A man lost his life in a fatal pedestrian accident on a Le Grand highway involving a semi-truck on Sunday morning. According to a report from ABC30, the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 99 close to the Plainsburg Road area on October 15, 2023.
When California Highway Patrol officials arrived on scene, they discovered that a 49-year-old man was getting out of his vehicle and attempting to cross the highway when he was sideswiped by a semi-truck. Police believe that the man was then struck by two vehicles while he was lying on the roadway after the initial collision.
Police claim that the two drivers of the passenger vehicles that struck the pedestrian fled the scene of the accident. The driver of the semi-truck, however, remained on scene and cooperated with police.
The road was blocked in multiple lanes following the accident. Police are now investigating the accident as a felony hit-and-run due to the drivers who fled the scene.
CHP continues their investigation into the circumstances of the accident at this time.
