A devastating two-car collision during the afternoon rush hour claimed a woman’s life in southwest Bakersfield Tuesday afternoon. KGET-TV reports the tragic accident occurred on Campus Park Drive near the intersection of Shimmering Way on April 18, 2023.
The Bakersfield Police Department responded to the scene at around 5:44 p.m. They determined that a man driving an eastbound car was speeding and for some reason drifted into the westbound lanes. There he struck a woman’s car head-on. In photos from the scene, a blue or purple car is shown with major front-end damage and smoke coming from the hood. A silver car is also seen with front-end damage.
Officials on the scene said that a woman was found with major injuries and was later pronounced dead on the scene. The two men in the other car were transported to the hospital with what were thought to be moderate injuries.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine why it happened.
