Highway 101 through San Jose can carry heavy traffic, even in the early morning hours. A small mistake by a single driver might have devastating consequences for vehicles in front, alongside, and traveling behind.
A chain-reaction collision can knock cars into other vehicles and leave disabled vehicles in the path of approaching motorists who don’t always have time to slow down. In the aftermath, victims can be left with broken arms and legs and other traumatic injuries. The worst of accidents can leave drivers and passengers with their lives in jeopardy.
Four Vehicle Collision In San Jose Claims One Life
A devastating chain-reaction accident in east San Jose claimed one life and left a man suffering with injuries early Wednesday. KSBW-TV reports the collisions occurred along Highway 101 north of Story Road on February 1, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene in the northbound lanes sometime after 5:55 a.m. They determined that a man in a 2007 Toyota was struck from behind by a man driving a 2017 Honda. That sent the first car, the 2007 Toyota, into a third vehicle, a 2004 Toyota. The 2004 Toyota then collided with a semi-truck.
The driver of the first vehicle, the 2007 Toyota, a 39-year-old man from Gilroy, tragically suffered fatal injuries. The San Francisco Times reported that the 53-year-old male driver of the third vehicle, the 2004 Toyota, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center.
The CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in what happened. They continue to investigate to determine the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
Finding Support for Victims and Families After a Major San Jose Accident
Victims of frightening accidents must often deal with long and painful recoveries. The families who have lost a loved one in a crash, will, of course, never completely get over the pain and grief of such a heartbreaking tragedy.
A wrongful death claim is filed by families who are seeking justice after a fatal accident. The claim is directed at an at-fault driver’s car insurance coverage. Close relatives will face the costs of burial, emergency services, and estate settlement all at once and be facing extreme financial difficulties. A claim can ask for assistance with these expenses. The guidance and financial support the deceased can no longer provide a spouse or their children must also be considered in a settlement negotiation.
For surviving victims, a claim for damages can prove the best option when trying to get every cost of recovery reimbursed. A basic insurance settlement may only cover the first few days in a hospital. The settlement could ignore the potential medical expenses that lie down the road including weeks of physical therapy, injury flare-ups, and future surgeries.
