Some drivers think that mother nature can be blamed for accidents involving extreme weather, but that’s not always the case. Even in emergency situations, like a storm, drivers are still expected to slow down and travel at speeds “safe for conditions” in order to prevent the chance of a collision.
After a tree falls on a road, motorists not in the initial crash are expected to remain alert enough and travel at safe enough speeds to allow enough time to avoid the crash site. When drivers are speeding along as if conditions were normal, they can be held liable for the injuries and heartbreaking fatalities they cause.
Tree Falls in Highway to Cause Deadly Chain-Reaction Accident Near Visalia
A tree fell on a pickup truck and then sparked a deadly multi-vehicle accident on Highway 99 east of Visalia on Tuesday morning. KFSN-TV reports the accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near the Betty Drive Exit on January 10, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) determined that the tragic accident began when a eucalyptus tree fell on a pickup truck traveling in the northbound lanes of Highway 99. Lightning was reported in the area at the time. In the aftermath, several more vehicles approaching the scene struck the tree or other cars. Investigators were unable to say how many vehicles were involved at the time they released their information.
They do confirm that the man driving the pickup truck struck by the tree was killed. A man on a motorcycle, a 58-year-old from Cutler, also lost his life. Several other victims reported minor injuries.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Earning Support for Families After a Tragic Tulare County Accident
After a California accident involving multiple vehicles, fault can be divided up between several drivers. The blame for collisions and life-threatening injuries might be shared by motorists who perhaps should have proceeded more cautiously when approaching a highway crash or while traveling in extreme weather conditions.
Families who have lost a loved one may seek support that’s only fair through a wrongful death claim. This claim is filed against the insurance providers for every responsible driver involved. It asks for assistance with the costs of a funeral and emergency response fees.
A claim can ask for assistance with these expenses and other losses, like the monthly wages the deceased can no longer provide for the family.
