2 Crashes Kill 1, Injure 2 CHP Officers near I-80, Air Base Pkwy in Solano County

Solano County, CA — On the night of Tuesday, October 13, 2026, a fatal collision and its aftermath resulted in two of the responding California Highway Patrol officers being injured, according to ABC10.

CHP reports that the initial crash took place on eastbound Interstate 80, west of Air Base Parkway, at approximately 10:45 PM. It involved a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The Honda driver, identified as a 19-year-old man, reportedly lost control of his vehicle for reasons unknown. This led to a collision with the Chevrolet.

While the Chevrolet driver escaped injury, the Honda driver sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his wounds.

The secondary accident took place an hour later, after multiple CHP vehicles had arrived and traffic was being diverted from multiple lanes of I-80. Two CHP officers were injured when a 22-year-old driver in a Tesla drove through flares and cones, striking a CHP vehicle.

Both officers were also taken to a nearby hospital, from which they have since been released. At this time, investigators have not yet determined whether the self-driving mode of the Tesla had been engaged when it struck the CHP vehicle.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Solano County Multi-Vehicle Crashes: Personal Injury Claims and Wrongful Death Claims

In the first of these collisions, the family of the Honda driver may have grounds for a wrongful death claim if it is found that outside circumstances contributed to the accident. A wrongful death claim can compensate grieving families for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of support and companionship provided by the deceased. While any settlement may be reduced if it is also found that the driver’s own negligence played a part as well, that would not bar them from seeking compensation.

While the two CHP officers who were subsequently injured when the Tesla struck their vehicle might pursue workers’ compensation, they may also have grounds for personal injury claims that could include both the 22-year-old driver and the vehicle manufacturer, if equipment failure was also a factor. A personal injury claim can provide compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.
