UPDATE: Silvia Soto Injured in Hit-and-Run at Foodmaxx on Niles St in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Friday, September 11, 2026, a hit-and-run left Silvia Soto with major injuries in the Foodmaxx parking lot, according to KGET.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:40 PM in the 6400 block of Niles Street, a commercial corridor in east Bakersfield home to several retail centers, including the Foodmaxx grocery store.

Authorities said an early or late model 1990s pickup truck struck Soto, a single mother of four who was working at her elote cart at the time, before fleeing the scene. She was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

A GoFundMe has been established to help cover Soto’s hospital bills and support her family. This remains an ongoing investigation.

Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Accidents and Personal Injury Claims

California law requires drivers involved in any collision to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement. A driver who flees the scene may face criminal prosecution in addition to civil liability, and may be considered to have committed negligence per se, increasing their share of liability in the collision.

Because the crash occurred in a store parking lot rather than on a public roadway, the property owner’s own security camera footage could be an important source of evidence for identifying the truck and its driver. Soto may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, which can provide compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident.
