Antioch, CA – Just before midnight on Saturday, September 12, 2026, a collision between a BMW and an Infiniti resulted in the deaths of Caden Kyle and Dominic Ferrari, both 17 and seniors at Liberty High School, and left a third teenager injured, according to KRON.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:50 PM on Deer Valley Road just west of Balfour Road, a narrow, winding rural roadway on the outskirts of Antioch.
Authorities said a witness reported that the Infiniti, carrying Kyle, Ferrari, and a third teenager, had been reversing in the roadway prior to the collision with the BMW. Both vehicles left the road and ended up on an embankment along the left shoulder. Kyle and Ferrari were pronounced dead at the scene, and the third teenager was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The driver of the BMW also sustained injuries but was treated and released.
The BMW was later found to be registered as a stolen and wanted vehicle in connection with a separate felony evading and reckless driving case, though the Antioch Police Department confirmed it had not been involved in any recent pursuit at the time of this crash. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office sent additional deputies to assist, and two evidence tows were requested for the vehicles involved.
Ferrari’s mother shared a tribute to her son on Facebook, describing him as her “buddy from the beginning” and recalling his sense of humor and love of dressing up in costumes. She wrote that she was living a “parent’s worst nightmare,” moving between crying, shock, and numbness, while also expressing heartbreak for the families of the other teenagers involved.
The Antioch Police Department continues to investigate what caused the collision and is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has surveillance or dashcam footage from the area to contact them.
