Deer Valley, Balfour Rd Crash Kills 2, Injures 2 in Antioch

Antioch, CA – Just before midnight on Saturday, September 12, 2026, a collision between a BMW and an Infiniti resulted in two deaths and left two others injured, according to KRON, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:50 PM on Deer Valley Road just west of Balfour Road, a rural roadway on the outskirts of Antioch.

Authorities said a witness reported that the Infiniti had been reversing in the roadway prior to the collision with the BMW. Both vehicles left the road and ended up on an embankment along the left shoulder. Two occupants of the Infiniti were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third was transported to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the BMW also sustained injuries.

The BMW was later found to be registered as a stolen and wanted vehicle in connection with a separate felony evading and reckless driving case, though the Antioch Police Department confirmed it had not been involved in any recent pursuit at the time of this crash. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office sent additional deputies to assist. Both lanes of Deer Valley Road were blocked during the response, and the coroner was notified. Two evidence tows were requested for the vehicles involved.

The collision remains under investigation, and the Antioch Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has surveillance or dashcam footage from the area to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Green of the Traffic Unit.

Antioch Car Accidents and Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Claims

California law follows the principle of comparative negligence. This means that even if a driver is found partially at fault for an accident, they or their surviving family members may still pursue compensation if the negligence of another party, such as a vehicle reversing improperly in an active roadway, contributed to the crash. Investigators with California law enforcement examine the positioning and actions of both vehicles to determine what role each may have played.

Because the BMW’s connection to an unrelated stolen-vehicle case has already introduced some complexity into the investigation, it will likely be important for the families and injured parties to establish precisely how this particular collision unfolded, independent of that separate matter. The families of those who died may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, while the surviving occupants of both vehicles may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, both of which can provide compensation for the losses specific to each type of claim.
