Strawberry, CA – On the morning of Friday, August 28, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of El Dorado County correctional officer Ryan Marietti after his vehicle plunged down an embankment along Highway 50, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office report that the crash was discovered just after 5:00 AM near 41 Mile Stone Road in the Strawberry area.
Officials said Marietti’s vehicle appeared to lose control, rolled over, and traveled approximately 70 feet down an embankment alongside the highway. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed that Marietti suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Emergency crews secured the perimeter and managed traffic flow along Highway 50 during recovery operations.
CHP has not released whether speed, mechanical failure, or alcohol were factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
