El Dorado County, CA – On the morning of Friday, August 28, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in at least one fatality after a car plummeted down a steep embankment, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office report that the accident was discovered just after 5:00 AM on Highway 50 near 41 Mile Stone Road in the Strawberry area.
Authorities said a vehicle appeared to have lost control, rolled over, and traveled roughly 70 feet down an embankment alongside the highway. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and confirmed at least one fatality resulting from the crash. Emergency crews secured the perimeter and impacted traffic flow along Highway 50 to conduct clean-up and recovery operations.
CHP has not released whether speed, mechanical failure, or alcohol were factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
