Roseville, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, July 2, 2026, a pedestrian collision involving a truck left a woman with a hearing disability without two of her service and companion dogs, according to KCRA.
The Roseville Police Department is investigating the accident, which took place near Firestone Drive and Glenwood Circle.
Authorities said Linda Sekany was crossing the street with four dogs when a truck that had been stopped pulled out and struck them. Sekany was thrown approximately five to six feet by the impact. The driver remained at the scene, and first responders were called. Three of the four dogs required emergency veterinary care.
Sekany was taken to a hospital by her son, where the family received word that Dugan, her canine companion, had died of cardiac arrest. Her service dog Jersey suffered a crushed pelvis and was ultimately euthanized.
Her pet dog Lafter underwent hip surgery and was recovering before developing a severe case of pneumonia requiring a return to the animal hospital. The foster dog Karat was unharmed.
Sekany said the loss of her dogs has left her feeling trapped in her home, as Jersey provided her the independence to function in the world. She noted that receiving a service dog requires a process spanning multiple years.
A GoFundMe has been established to assist her during this difficult time.
Roseville Pedestrian Accidents and Personal Injury Claims
California law requires drivers to exercise an extra duty of care toward pedestrians, particularly at intersections and crosswalks. Drivers are expected to yield to pedestrians crossing the road and must not pull into a crosswalk while pedestrians are present. When a collision does occur, the driver is expected to remain at the scene, alert emergency responders, and cooperate fully with investigators.
Although Sekany escaped the crash without physical injuries, the loss of her service dogs and the impact on her independence and quality of life may give rise to a personal injury claim. A personal injury claim can provide compensation for medical expenses, veterinary costs, emotional distress, loss of use of a service animal, and other damages related to the accident.
