Stanislaus County, CA – On the evening of Thursday, July 16, 2026, a two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of a 29-year-old Patterson man and left three others injured near Modesto, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:51 PM at Paradise and Shiloh Roads.
Authorities said a Rivian SUV was traveling westbound on Paradise Road before making a left turn onto Shiloh Road when a 2004 Toyota pickup truck traveling eastbound on Paradise Road at approximately 55 miles per hour struck the Rivian in the intersection.
The driver of the Toyota died as a result of the crash. A 32-year-old male passenger in the Toyota, also from Patterson, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The 16-year-old driver of the Rivian and a 38-year-old female passenger, both from Patterson, sustained minor injuries and were also transported.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours. The investigation remains ongoing.
Stanislaus County Car Accidents and Personal Injury Claims
California law requires drivers to yield the right of way when making a left turn across oncoming traffic, and requires oncoming drivers to travel at safe speeds appropriate to the conditions and traffic present. When a left-turning vehicle and an oncoming vehicle collide at an intersection, investigators with California law enforcement examine the right of way, the speed of both vehicles, and other factors to determine which driver may bear liability.
The family of the deceased driver may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, while those injured in the crash may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. These claims can provide compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident.
