Petaluma, CA – DUI is suspected after a multi-vehicle collision left three people injured on the afternoon of Saturday, June 7, 2026, according to KRON.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place on northbound Highway 101 north of Washington Street.
Authorities said a 19-year-old Petaluma woman was driving a GMC Arcadia at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a big rig. The GMC lost control, struck another car, and rolled over several times.
Two occupants, including the driver, were ejected from the vehicle. A male passenger sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A 15-year-old male passenger was treated and released. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
All southbound lanes of Highway 101 were temporarily closed during the response. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the CHP Santa Rosa Area office. The investigation remains ongoing.
California DUI Law
Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
Passenger Liability
A driver’s liability coverage extends to those inside their vehicle as well as outside. In many cases, those passengers are someone who knows the driver personally. So, when a passenger is injured and their driver is found liable, they may feel reluctant to file a claim against the driver’s insurance.
In many cases, however, a personal injury claim may be required for an insurer to offer a fair settlement that covers the injured party’s medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident. A personal injury attorney can facilitate this process and, as a neutral third party, help navigate any emotional complexities that may arise.
