Bakersfield, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, June 7, 2026, a collision with a vehicle resulted in a male pedestrian losing his life, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 1:20 PM at California Avenue and Union Avenue.
Authorities said a woman was driving a gray Chevrolet pickup eastbound on East California Avenue after turning from northbound Union Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle departed the roadway and struck both the pedestrian and a fence south of the roadway.
The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 4:15 PM. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Impairment does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Bakersfield Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a wrongful death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
