Castroville, CA – On the morning of Friday, June 12, 2026, a collision between a pickup truck and a mini dirt bike resulted in the death of a 16-year-old Castroville youth, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:57 AM at the intersection of Cooper and Pomber Streets.
Authorities said the youth was riding a mini dirt bike westbound on Pomber Street while a 35-year-old Hollister man was driving a Ram pickup southbound on Cooper Street north of Pomber Street.
For reasons still under investigation, the dirt bike entered the intersection and moved into the southbound lane of Cooper Street, where it was struck on the right side by the pickup. The rider was transported to a local hospital with major injuries and later died.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the youth has been identified but will not release his name publicly out of respect for the family. The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claim
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a wrongful death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
Comparative Negligence
California Law upholds the concept of comparative negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially responsible.
