Sonoma, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a single-engine aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Sonoma Valley Airport, leaving three people injured, according to KRON.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident took place around 4:19 PM at 23980 Arnold Drive.
Authorities said the aircraft came to rest against a levee at the airport following the crash. The plane was carrying a pilot and two passengers. One of the occupants was airlifted to a hospital with moderate injuries, a second was transported by ambulance, and the third was treated and released at the scene.
Sonoma Valley Sheriff’s deputies, the California Highway Patrol, the Schellville Fire Department, and Sonoma Valley Fire District personnel all responded to the scene. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Aircraft Accidents & Personal Injury
Just like accidents involving motor vehicles, victims of aircraft accidents and their affected loved ones can pursue compensation for damages if it is found that someone else’s negligence contributed to their accidental death or injury. Filing a personal injury claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
Because California Law follows the legal principle of comparative negligence, even if the pilot shared responsibility in the accident, others may share a portion of the fault. A potential settlement may be decreased proportionally.
Passenger Liability
A pilot’s liability coverage extends to those inside their vehicle as well as outside. In many cases, those passengers are someone who knows the driver personally. So, when a passenger is injured and their pilot is found liable, they may feel reluctant to file a claim against the driver’s insurance.
In many cases, however, a personal injury claim may be required for an insurer to offer a fair settlement that covers the injured party’s medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident. A personal injury attorney can facilitate this process and, as a neutral third party, help navigate any emotional complexities that may arise.
