Fresno, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, April 29, 2026, a pedestrian hit-and-run left a 4-year-old boy in critical condition and led to the arrest of Aman Kumar, 31, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:00 PM in the area of Peach and Nevada Avenues.
Authorities said the boy had been playing in the backyard of a nearby home when he left through a gate and walked into traffic on Peach Avenue. Drivers on Peach Avenue brought their vehicles to a stop upon seeing the child in the road.
Kumar’s vehicle allegedly moved into the bike lane to go around the stopped traffic and struck the boy. Kumar was said to have fled the scene following the collision.
Officers located and arrested Kumar on Wednesday morning. He has since bailed out of the Fresno County Jail. The boy was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition at the time of reporting. His identity had not been officially released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
Children and Pedestrian Accidents
California Law requires drivers to exercise increased caution whenever they are near places that children are known to gather, like school zones and parks. Children are not expected to make rational, informed decisions about their own safety, and under the age of five, they cannot share any liability in an accident. Both negligent drivers and distracted caretakers could be found liable in accidents involving children.
