Pedestrian Crash Kills Boy at Canoas Garden Townhomes near Almaden Expy in San Jose

San Jose, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 22, 2026, a collision in an apartment complex driveway resulted in a young boy losing his life, according to KRON.

The San Jose Police Department reports that the accident took place around 4:23 PM at Canoas Garden Townhomes in the 2100 block of Canoas Garden Avenue, just west of the Almaden Expressway.

Authorities said a man driving a gray 2021 Toyota minivan was traveling northbound in the parking area when he struck the boy. First responders transported the boy to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives. Investigators determined that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

The identity of the boy had not been released at the time of reporting. The incident marks San Jose’s seventh pedestrian death and 16th fatal collision of 2026. The investigation remains ongoing.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a wrongful death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
