Patrick Harold McKendry, 72, of Bakersfield, Killed in Auburn St Pedestrian Crash

Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Friday, April 17, 2026, a collision resulted in Patrick Harold McKendry, 72, of Bakersfield, losing his life in northeast Bakersfield, according to KBAK.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 7:10 PM in the 5600 block of Auburn Street.

Authorities said McKendry had exited a bus and entered the roadway in front of a vehicle traveling eastbound on Auburn Street. Officers responded to the scene and found him in the roadway suffering from major injuries. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following the crash.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Neither speed nor impairment are believed to have been factors in the collision. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Bakersfield Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.
