Merced County, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, April 1, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of a 69-year-old Sacramento woman, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:09 PM on northbound Highway 99 at Le Grand Road.
Authorities said the woman was driving a Cadillac SUV when she drifted onto the right shoulder and up a dirt embankment before striking the concrete base of the Le Grand Road overcrossing.
The vehicle sustained major damage and came to rest in an unsafe location, preventing first responders from immediately reaching the woman, who was found unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been contributing factors in the collision. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
