Contra Costa County, CA – On the morning of Sunday, April 20, 2026, a two-vessel collision on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta left six people injured near Discovery Bay, according to KRON.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident took place near Orwood Resort during a high school fishing competition.
Authorities said one boat failed to stop in time and collided with a second boat that had slowed down in a no-wake zone. Three people aboard the boat that failed to stop were thrown into the water and were rescued by nearby boaters. The three occupants of the second boat were also injured in the collision. Four of the six injured were transported to local hospitals, with their conditions unknown at the time of reporting.
Each fishing team in the competition consisted of two teenage anglers and an adult boater, with more than 50 teams participating in the event. Organizers noted that safety meetings, including kill switch tests, are conducted before each competition. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
Fishing Boat Accident Personal Injury Claims
In California, accidents involving boats and other watercraft are treated similarly to car accidents. Should a jet ski operator cause injury through negligence, they can be held responsible for the victim’s medical expenses and other damages. Victims can seek compensation for their injuries, even if no criminal charges are filed against the at-fault party.
However, insurance companies often try to minimize payouts or shift blame. That is why having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential to ensure victims receive fair compensation.
