Head-on Crash in Yolo County near I-5, CR-8 Kills 2, Injures 1

Yolo County, CA – On the evening of Monday, March 10, 2026, a head-on collision on Interstate 5 resulted in two fatalities and one major injury, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:52 PM near Interstate 5, just south of County Road 8, a few miles south of the town of Dunnigan.

According to the CHP’s Woodland office, one vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-5 at the time of the crash. The wrong-way driver, alone in a Honda, struck a Toyota that was traveling southbound and carrying both a driver and a passenger.

The impact of the head-on collision proved fatal for two of the three individuals involved: the driver of the Honda and the passenger in the Toyota both died as a result of their injuries. The driver of the Toyota sustained major injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released additional identifying details about any of the three individuals involved. The Yolo County Coroner’s Office will disclose the names and ages of the two deceased once their respective families have been notified. Investigators have indicated that alcohol or drugs are believed to have been a contributing factor in the collision.

The CHP’s Woodland office is asking anyone with information related to this fatal crash to come forward and contact investigators directly. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
