Fatal Pedestrian Crash near Woodson Multimedia School at Shaw Ave, First St Kills 2 Fresno Youths

Fresno, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 10, 2026, a pedestrian collision involving two children resulted in hospitalizations, according to the Fresno Bee.

The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 2:45 PM at Shaw Avenue and First Street, near the intersection of First Street and Fairmont Avenue.

The two young pedestrians, both estimated to be around 12 or 13 years old, were struck by a vehicle near Carter G. Woodson Multimedia School, a seventh through twelfth grade institution in Fresno. Both children were transported to a nearby hospital following the collision. The extent of their injuries has not been formally disclosed.

Authorities indicated that early reports suggest the children were running across traffic outside of a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash. Fresno police spokesperson Sgt. Trueba Vega confirmed the details of the incident and noted that officers responded promptly to the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the collision continue to be examined by law enforcement. The investigation remains ongoing.

Children and Pedestrian Accidents

California Law requires drivers to exercise increased caution whenever they are near places that children are known to gather, like school zones and parks. Children are not expected to make rational, informed decisions about their own safety, and under the age of five, they cannot share any liability in an accident. Both negligent drivers and distracted caretakers could be found liable in accidents involving children.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
