I-80, Lagoon Valley Rd Crash Leads to Death of Sacramento Man, 28, in Vacaville

Vacaville, CA – In the early hours of Monday, March 30, 2026, a single-vehicle collision and its aftermath resulted in the death of a 28-year-old Sacramento man, who was struck by multiple vehicles, according to KCRA.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just before 3:00 AM on Interstate 80 westbound near Lagoon Valley Road.

Authorities said the 28-year-old driver appeared to have lost control of his blue Toyota Corolla for unknown reasons, causing him to crash into the center divider.

As officers were responding, a 50-year-old Woodland man driving a gray Honda Accord struck the Toyota, propelling the Corolla’s driver onto the roadway. The Honda then crashed into a dirt embankment on the right shoulder. The driver of the Honda admitted to being distracted at the time of the impact.

Emergency medical services arrived on scene and witnessed a white Mercedes drive over the Corolla driver, who was lying in the roadway, before they stopped to wait for law enforcement. A Kia drove over the man as well before pulling over, at which point the occupants exited the vehicle to check for damage before fleeing the scene.

EMS personnel attempted to provide aid to the 28-year-old, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s comparative negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
