Hayward, CA – On the evening of Saturday, February 14, 2026, a vehicle versus pedestrian collision resulted in the death of a 59-year-old woman and serious injuries to a 6-year-old boy, according to KRON.
The Hayward Police Department reports that the accident took place around 6:21 PM near the intersection of Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street.
Authorities said the woman and child were using a crosswalk when a 60-year-old Hayward man allegedly struck them with his car. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported both pedestrians to a nearby hospital.
Police said the adult woman later succumbed to her injuries. The boy sustained facial fractures and is expected to survive. Officials confirmed he has since been reunited with family members.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
