Fowler, CA – On the morning of Sunday, January 18, 2026, Michael Molano, 23, of Fresno, was killed in a fiery collision involving a big rig on Clovis Avenue near Highway 99, according to ABC30.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred just before 7:30 AM in the southbound lanes of Clovis Avenue. Investigators said Molano was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup when it collided with a big rig hauling tomatoes that was also attempting a turn in the roadway amid dense fog. The impact caused the pickup to become lodged beneath the trailer, and both vehicles caught fire.

Emergency responders closed the affected lanes of Clovis Avenue for several hours while fire crews extinguished the blaze and officers conducted a full investigation. Molano was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the big rig was not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with authorities.

CHP stated that visibility was significantly reduced due to thick fog at the time of the collision, which is believed to have been a primary factor. Investigators also noted that speed may have contributed. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected on the part of the big rig driver, and toxicology testing is being conducted for Molano as part of standard procedures.
