Big Rig Crash Kills 1, Injures 2 at Hwy 137, Rd 196 in Lindsay

Lindsay, CA – On the evening of Monday, December 8, 2025, a collision involving a big rig and a sedan left one person dead and two others injured, according to KSEE.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:30 PM at the intersection of Highway 137 and Road 196.

Authorities said the big rig was traveling east on Highway 137 while a white sedan was heading south on Road 196 when both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time and collided. The impact pushed the big rig into a tree, causing it to overturn and spill its corrosive cargo. Responding officers found the truck with a tree on top of it and extensive damage at the scene.

CHP said the big rig driver sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. A juvenile in the sedan was also taken to the hospital for treatment. An occupant of the sedan died from injuries suffered in the crash. Officials have not released additional details on the victims’ conditions.

Caltrans announced that Highway 137 was closed between Highway 99 and Highway 65 due to the overturned truck and resulting HAZMAT spill. Cleanup and road closure procedures were expected to last at least two hours.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause.

Failure to Yield

In California, as in other states, “failure to yield” means that you didn’t give the right of way to the right person at the right time. As such, failure to yield or stop is closely related to the “right of way.” When a motorist fails to yield, stop or otherwise avoid an accident and causes a crash, he or she can be held liable for injuries and damages suffered by a victim.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
