Fresno County, CA – A man was killed early Wednesday morning in a collision involving a big rig near the POM Wonderful plant, according to ABC30.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just before 6:00 AM at the intersection of American and Del Rey avenues. 

Investigators said the driver of a Dodge Challenger was heading along the roadway when he struck the rear of a big rig that was in the process of turning into the POM Wonderful facility.

The force of the impact caused major damage to the front of the Dodge, and emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of relatives.

The big rig driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries described as minor to moderate. He is expected to recover, according to CHP officials.

Officers said there were no indications that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. The roadway was temporarily closed while investigators examined the scene and cleared debris. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
