Fresno, CA – On the evening of Monday, September 29, 2025, a pedestrian hit-and-run collision left Yeraldin Pascual, 24, with fatal injuries, according to The Fresno Bee.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:15 PM near the intersection of Nielsen and Hughes Avenue.
Authorities said Pascual was walking alongside the roadway after getting into an argument with her boyfriend while in a car that had pulled over. She stepped into the street when another vehicle struck her. Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene and transported her to a hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Witnesses told police the striking vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan possibly damaged on the passenger side, stopped briefly and then fled. Authorities are actively searching for the driver.
Police are treating the collision as a fatal hit-and-run, and the driver could face felony vehicular manslaughter charges. The Fresno Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
