Shasta County, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, October 13, 2025, a fatal crash occurred when a green Ford F-350 truck veered off the road and struck a tree along eastbound State Route 299, according to CHP Fatal.
The incident was reported at approximately 2:30 PM near mile marker 67. Witnesses said the truck left the roadway and collided with a tree, prompting an immediate emergency response from CAL FIRE Shasta and Caltrans.
Authorities confirmed that the driver was found unresponsive inside the vehicle. Despite efforts by first responders, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic was impacted as crews worked to secure the area and begin recovery operations. Caltrans and tow services remained on site through the afternoon to remove the wrecked vehicle and clear debris.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, which has not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
