Elk Grove, CA – The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified Darin Takeo Hirata, 17, as the young man who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on the evening of Sunday, October 19, 2025, according to ABC10.
The Elk Grove Police Department reports that the accident took place around 9:00 PM on Elk Grove Boulevard, east of Waterfowl Drive, near the city’s Lakeside neighborhood.
Authorities said Hirata, an Elk Grove resident, was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision. The roadway was closed in both directions until approximately 5:00 AM on Monday to allow investigators to examine the scene and clear the wreckage.
Police confirmed that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, but preliminary findings indicate that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors.
The Elk Grove Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
