Placer County, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Leonidas Castro, 78, died in a multi-vehicle crash that involved two motorcycles and a car, according to The Sacramento Bee, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:07 PM in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Crystal Springs Road within a construction zone.
Investigators said Castro lost control of his motorcycle while traveling through the area. His motorcycle left the roadway, and the impact ejected him onto the pavement. Emergency responders reached the scene quickly, but Castro sustained fatal injuries and died before paramedics could transport him to a hospital.
The crash also involved a second motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. Officials have not confirmed the extent of injuries to those occupants, though they reported that all remained at the scene while authorities conducted their investigation.
Traffic on Interstate 80 shut down for hours after the crash. Officers initiated traffic breaks to prevent further collisions while the fire department and paramedics provided assistance. Tow trucks later removed the damaged vehicles for evidence.
The Placer County Coroner’s Office identified Castro later that evening. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
