Hwy 99, David Rd Crash Kills Passenger in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, a crash on northbound Highway 99 left a 63-year-old woman dead, according to KGET.

The incident took place around 3:10 AM near David Road when CHP units responded to a report of a person waving down passing drivers on the highway shoulder.

Investigators determined that a 64-year-old man had been driving a 2000 Honda Accord northbound on Highway 99 at about 70 miles per hour. CHP said the driver is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel, which caused the vehicle to veer onto the east shoulder.

The Honda struck a dirt berm, lost control, and rolled over before coming to rest in a nearby dirt field. During the rollover, the 63-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She died at the scene.

The driver sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.

Authorities reported that alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the collision. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury or Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help to navigate these emotional complexities.
