Fresno, CA – On the evening of Monday, September 29, 2025, a 25-year-old woman lost her life in a pedestrian hit-and-run collision, according to KSEE.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the crash happened around 8:15 PM on Hughes Avenue just south of Belmont Avenue in west Fresno.
Officers said they arrived to find the woman lying unconscious in the roadway. They performed CPR at the scene before transporting her to a hospital. Despite their efforts, she died from her injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that, prior to the collision, there may have been a disturbance that occurred between several people inside a vehicle that had pulled over near the scene. The woman stepped out of that vehicle and into the roadway when another vehicle struck her.
Witnesses told police the striking vehicle stopped briefly, then fled. Authorities said they are searching for a dark-colored sedan, possibly with damage on the passenger side.
Police are treating the case as a fatal hit-and-run. Investigators said the driver could face felony vehicular manslaughter charges.
The Fresno Police Department continues to investigate and has asked anyone with information to come forward.
Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
