Fresno, CA – The victim of a fatal big-rig-versus-scooter collision on the morning of Tuesday, August 12, 2025, has been identified as Richard Gomez, 36, of Fresno by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office, according to KSEE.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the crash occurred at approximately 7:00 AM in the area of Blythe Avenue and Gates Avenue, near Highway 99 and behind a WinCo store.
Police report that Gomez was struck by the big rig while traveling on his scooter. Emergency personnel arrived and confirmed he had died at the scene from his injuries.
The driver of the big rig remained at the location in one account of the incident, while another report indicated that a witness followed the vehicle to the area of Ashlan Avenue and Golden State Boulevard, where officers made contact with the driver.
Authorities stated that preliminary findings do not suggest alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Investigators noted it is possible the driver was unaware of the collision.
The Fresno Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting a detailed investigation, and no decision has been made regarding potential charges.
