Manteca, CA – On the early morning of Sunday, August 17, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in a motorcyclist losing their life, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:17 AM on northbound State Route 99 at the Lathrop Road off-ramp.
Authorities say a motorcycle collided with a Ford Mustang, causing the rider to be thrown into the traffic lanes. The motorcycle came to rest in the roadway while the Mustang overturned and sustained heavy damage to its right front axle. A white Chevrolet Express van also became involved in the crash and stopped on the right-hand shoulder with tire damage.
Emergency responders, including Stockton Fire Department crews, arrived at the scene to provide medical aid. The motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the rider’s identity, pending notification of family.
The severity of the crash resulted in the full closure of the northbound State Route 99 in the area. By early morning, crews reopened all lanes to traffic.
CHP investigators continue to determine the sequence of events that caused the deadly collision.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
