Marisa Gomez, 21, of Lemoore Killed in Lacey Blvd, 16th Ave Crash in Kings County

Kings County, CA – On the morning of Sunday, August 17, 2025, a two-vehicle collision caused fatal injuries to Marisa Gomez, 21, of Lemoore, according to KSEE.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident took place around 11:15 AM at the intersection of Lacey Boulevard and 16th Avenue.

According to initial investigations, Gomez was driving a 2024 Ford Mustang southbound on 16th Avenue when she entered the intersection. Investigators said evidence suggests that Gomez may have failed to yield to a 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz traveling west on Lacey Boulevard. The Hyundai, moving at the legal speed, struck the driver’s side of the Mustang in a broadside crash..

The collision forced Gomez’s vehicle off the road and into a nearby orchard, where it struck several trees before coming to rest. Witnesses saw debris scatter across the roadway, and emergency crews worked quickly to clear the scene.

Paramedics transported both drivers to area hospitals. Doctors treated the Hyundai driver for minor injuries and released that individual later in the day. Medical staff attempted to save Gomez, but she died from her injuries after arriving at the hospital.

Family members described Gomez as a young woman with strong community ties and deep family connections. Relatives created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral costs, and supporters have already begun contributing.

The California Highway Patrol confirmed that no passengers were inside either vehicle at the time of the crash. Officers inspected the scene, took statements, and documented the positions of both vehicles.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact speed of each driver and whether additional factors contributed to the collision.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
