Rosamond, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, July 31, 2025, a driver identified as Jonathon Rubio sustained major injuries, and another man died following a head-on collision, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:20 PM on Rosamond Boulevard, west of 45th Street West.
Investigators state that the collision involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions along Rosamond Boulevard. A 2016 Hyundai, driven by a man whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was heading in one direction when it collided head-on with a 2004 Honda being driven by Jonathon Rubio. The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles and resulted in severe injuries to both drivers.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported both individuals to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Hyundai later died at the hospital due to the extent of his injuries. Rubio was also hospitalized and is reported to have suffered major injuries.
Officials from the California Highway Patrol indicated that impairment is suspected to have played a role in the collision. However, further toxicology and investigative reports will be needed to confirm any contributing factors.
The deceased individual’s identity has not yet been released, and inquiries regarding his name can be directed to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The CHP Mojave Area office is continuing its investigation and has asked that anyone with additional information about the incident contact their office.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
