Fresno Traffic data for 2024 has been released, and it shows that there are some locations around Fresno that are more dangerous than others.
Intersections bring a lot of traffic from different directions together. Mix in some drivers who aren’t paying attention to the road, and accidents become a frequent outcome. These risks should concern all local drivers and passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists in 2025 and beyond.
We hope that by highlighting some of the most hazardous intersections around Fresno, our study can serve as a reminder to drivers to pay more attention and slow down. Another goal is to spark a conversation about changes that need to be made to some of the most dangerous crossroads in our city.
The Fresno Intersections with the Most Accidents and Injuries
California’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) GIS Map shows the accidents that occurred in Fresno down to street level. Zooming into the major crossroads around town, it was easy to see the intersections containing the most dots, each representing a traffic collision. These dots represent frightening impacts and the victims who may not be able to walk away from the wreckage.
Our research into intersection accident figures spanned the most recent three years for which data is available (2022-2024). These are some of the crossroads that stood out as having the highest frequency of accidents and leaving behind the most victims.
Blackstone Avenue and Herndon Avenue Intersection – 19 Crashes: Of the major intersections examined in our study, this was the location that saw the most people injured. 19 collisions were recorded at or near the intersection over three years. Those accidents led to a shocking 30 victims suffering injuries. Two pedestrians were hurt in accidents here, along with two cyclists. It’s an intersection that stays busy with all the retail shops surrounding it.

Blackstone Avenue and Dakota Avenue – 19 Crashes: This dangerous intersection was the scene of 19 collisions and left 27 people injured from 2022 to 2024. At least 6 pedestrians were hurt in those accidents, along with 2 cyclists. The streets intersect in front of the New Manchester shopping area. Plenty of drivers and pedestrians pass through the area heading to popular stores and restaurants.

Fresno Street and Clinton Avenue – 16 Crashes: This intersection sits near the Fresno VA Medical Center. In a location near a hospital where safety should be a number one concern, there were at least 21 people hurt in accidents over a span of three years. Two people on foot and one bicyclist were among the victims.

Maroa Avenue and Clinton Avenue – 15 Crashes: A residential area where at least 23 people suffered injuries over three years. According to California’s traffic data, all of the accidents involved only vehicles.
Blackstone Avenue and Ashlan Avenue – 13 Crashes: A mix of residential properties, stores, hotels, and gas stations makes this a busy section of town. It’s also one of the most dangerous spots for those traveling on foot. The accidents documented from 2022 to 2024 show that at least 12 victims suffered injuries here. One victim was riding a bicycle. At least 7 victims were pedestrians. One of those victims did not survive. The accidents involving pedestrians aren’t surprising at an intersection that forces some on foot to cross 8 lanes of traffic to traverse the street.
Shields Avenue and Fresno Street – 13 Crashes: A busy intersection near Highway 41. Neighborhoods on all sides add cars and foot traffic to this fast-moving area. 14 people were injured in the accidents here over a three-year span. The accidents led to at least 14 injured victims and at least one death from 2022 to 2024. There was one pedestrian victim and one cyclist hurt, according to California transportation statistics.

What To Do If You Are in a Car Accident
See to your safety and everyone else’s safety first. Contact 911. Request an ambulance if you or anyone else involved is hurt. Give responding officers a full account of what happened so they can write up an accurate accident report. Go to the hospital if necessary.
Once things are secure, and if you are left strong enough, try to collect some evidence on the scene. These details are critical if there’s a dispute over who was at fault. The other driver may try to falsely blame you. The driver’s car insurance provider could also try to accuse you of causing the collision.
Take photos of the damage to vehicles and any visible injuries you have. Make sure to get contact information from any witnesses around. Get driver’s license and insurance information from the other drivers involved if an officer doesn’t provide you with this information.
If you suffer a serious injury, like a broken bone, a back or neck injury, or brain trauma, it’s also a good idea to speak to a skilled Fresno Car Accident Attorney. Maison Law offers a free, no-obligation consultation to go over what your injury is worth and how to force unhelpful car insurance companies to cover every recovery cost.
