Modesto, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, August 19, 2025, a single-vehicle collision between a big rig and a fence caused serious injuries to a driver, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:00 AM on South 9th Street.
Firefighters with the Modesto Fire Department arrived to find a vehicle that had struck the rear of a big rig trailer before crashing through a chain-link fence. The collision caused a fence post to impale the driver. Authorities said the injured person removed the post before firefighters reached the scene.
Engine 19, staffed with two paramedic firefighters, provided advanced life support alongside ambulance personnel. Emergency crews stabilized the driver and transported the patient to a local hospital for further treatment. Officials have not yet released the identity of the injured driver.
The crash left significant debris scattered along South 9th Street. Crews worked to secure the damaged fence and to ensure that the big rig could be safely moved from the roadway. Authorities closed lanes while paramedics treated the patient and investigators documented the crash.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the collision. Officers are reviewing whether driver fatigue, distraction, or speed contributed to the crash.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
