Lamont, CA – On the evening of Friday, August 22, 2025, a bicyclist died after two separate vehicles struck him on Buena Vista Boulevard, according to KBAK, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 8:26 PM on Buena Vista Boulevard, west of Fairfax Road.
Investigators said a 48-year-old man drove a 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor eastbound at about 55 to 60 miles per hour. As he traveled in the right lane, a male bicyclist rode in the same direction ahead of him. The Mitsubishi collided with the bicyclist and threw him across the roadway.
The force of the crash hurled the bicyclist into the westbound lane, where a 28-year-old woman driving a 2018 Hyundai Accent approached. She struck the bicyclist with the front left portion of her car. Emergency personnel reached the scene soon after and pronounced the bicyclist dead.
Both drivers stopped their vehicles and fully cooperated with the authorities. Officers confirmed that neither alcohol nor drugs contributed to the crash. The investigation continues as officials work to gather additional details.
Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards bicyclists, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Comparative Negligence
California Law upholds the concept of Comparative Negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially responsible.
