Bakersfield, CA – On the night of Friday, August 8, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on Highway 99 claimed the lives of two men and left two others injured, according to KBAK.
The deceased were identified as Alexes Napoleon Perez Rivera, 20, and Samuel Ignacio Hernandez Cervantes, 20.
The California Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred just after 11 PM, when a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Highway 99.
The Silverado veered onto the west shoulder, striking a metal guardrail before colliding with the south Union Avenue overcrossing. It came to rest on the west shoulder, partially blocking the number three lane.
Authorities said Hernandez Cervantes was ejected from the Silverado during the crash. Both he and Perez Rivera were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers sustained severe injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help navigate these emotional complexities.
