Guillermina Medina, 60, Killed in Fresno County Crash at Grantland, Olive Ave

Fresno County, CA – On the evening of Thursday, July 17, 2025, a two-vehicle collision resulted in fatal injuries to Guillermina Medina, 60, of Clovis, according to The Fresno Bee.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:45 PM at the intersection of Grantland and Olive Avenues.

Medina had been driving a silver Acura TSX southbound on Grantland Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, she failed to stop at a posted stop sign. As her vehicle entered the intersection, a black Jeep traveling eastbound on Olive Avenue collided with the driver’s side of the Acura.

CHP noted that Olive Avenue is not controlled by stop signs at that intersection, meaning cross traffic is not required to yield. The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and required immediate response from emergency medical services.

Medina was transported from the scene to Community Regional Medical Center, where she later died as a result of her injuries. The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. No other injuries were reported.

Officials stated that neither drugs nor alcohol are currently suspected as contributing factors. The fatal crash is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol’s Fresno-area office, which continues to gather witness statements and examine evidence to determine the full sequence of events that led to the collision.

Stop Sign Laws

California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
