Fatal Crash into Tree at Hood Franklin Rd, Franklin Blvd in Sacramento County

Sacramento County, CA – On the night of Thursday, July 24, 2025, a single-vehicle collision involving a tree resulted in the death of a 52-year-old man, according to The Sacramento Bee, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred just after 11:00 PM near the intersection of Hood Franklin Road and Franklin Boulevard, in the southern portion of Sacramento County. CHP dispatchers were alerted to the incident through an iPhone crash notification indicating a possible collision involving a Lexus sedan.

According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the CHP’s South Sacramento office, the driver had been traveling eastbound on Hood Franklin Road when the vehicle crossed over the centerline into the westbound lane. The sedan then veered off the north side of the roadway and collided with a tree near the 3000 block of Hood Franklin Road. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle, and emergency responders pronounced the driver deceased at the scene.

Another motorist reportedly pulled over and exited their vehicle to check on the scene shortly after the collision occurred. Emergency services, including Sacramento Fire Department personnel, responded to the incident, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was notified.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether impairment by drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
