Head-On Crash on Hwy 9 near California Dr Injures 2 in the Santa Cruz Mountains

Ben Lomond, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, a head-on collision resulted in two people suffering serious injuries, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol Santa Cruz reports that the crash occurred around 3:40 PM on Highway 9, just south of California Drive in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

According to investigators, a 66-year-old woman from Boulder Creek was driving a white 2008 Lexus RX400 northbound on Highway 9 at an unknown speed. At the same time, a 46-year-old man from Felton was driving a black 2007 Lexus RX400 southbound on the same highway. For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided head-on.

Both drivers sustained major injuries in the crash and were transported by ambulance to Valley Medical Center for further treatment. Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the collision.

The incident remains under active investigation as CHP works to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Personal Injury Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a Personal Injury Claim with the responsible party’s insurance, which can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
