Senaida Irene Angel, 44, of Bakersfield Killed in Crash at Hosking Ave, Hughes Ln in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified 44-year-old Senaida Irene Angel of Bakersfield as the woman killed in a two-vehicle collision on the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, according to KGET.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 2:50 AM at the intersection of Hosking Avenue and Hughes Lane.

Authorities say that Angel was driving a Buick Roadmaster westbound on Hosking Avenue when she attempted to make a left turn at the intersection. Preliminary findings indicate that Angel made the turn against a red light, crossing into the path of an oncoming vehicle that was traveling east on Hosking Avenue. The other vehicle, driven by a man whose name has not been released, struck Angel’s vehicle on the passenger side.

Emergency personnel from the Bakersfield Police Department, Hall Ambulance, and other first responders arrived on scene shortly after the crash was reported. Angel was found suffering from major injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Despite efforts by medical staff, she was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:53 AM.

The driver of the other vehicle was evaluated at the scene and did not report any injuries. He remained on site and fully cooperated with the investigation, according to officials. No passengers were reported in either vehicle at the time of the crash.

Police stated that there was no indication that speed, alcohol, or drug use played a role in the collision. Surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras and witness statements are being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the precise sequence of events.

Authorities encourage anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
