May 19, 2025, Santa Cruz, CA: An accident involving a school bus took place in the Santa Cruz mountains and led to injuries on Monday morning.
According to KSBW, the collision happened around 9:50 a.m. on Vine Hill Road near the area of Highway 17. Police confirmed that a 67-year-old woman was driving her Mini Cooper while a 66-year-old man was driving a 2013 Blue Bird school bus. There were 24 children and one other adult on the bus at the time.
Police claim that, for reasons that remain unknown, the front of the Mini Cooper collided with the rear of the school bus. The Mini then left the road and collided with a tree.
The driver of the Mini was rushed to Valley Medical Center with major injuries. Two children on the bus sustained minor injuries but were not hospitalized. None of the adults on the bus were hurt.
Both lanes of traffic were blocked for some time. Police urged drivers to expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the accident at this time.
