Fatal Crash Involving Dump Truck at Elder Creek Rd, South Watt Ave in Sacramento County

Sacramento County, CA – In the early morning of Thursday, April 17, 2025, a head-on collision between a sedan and a dump truck resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 5:56 AM at the intersection of Elder Creek Road and South Watt Avenue in southeastern Sacramento County.

The collision involved a sedan and a dump truck, with the sedan sustaining major damage. Emergency responders transported the sedan’s driver, a 40-year-old man, to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

South Watt Avenue was closed from Florin Road to Elder Creek Road for several hours as crews cleared the scene.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity. It remains unclear what caused the crash, and the incident is under investigation.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
