Sanger, CA – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified Hubert Hsu, 17, as the high school student killed when he and another 17-year-old were struck by a vehicle while crossing the road on the evening of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, according to KSEE.
The Sanger Police Department reports that the accident occurred around 7:20 PM at the intersection of Bethel Avenue and Almond Avenue.
Officers arrived to find both teenagers suffering from serious injuries. Emergency responders provided medical aid before transporting them to Community Regional Medical Center. Hsu later died at the hospital from his injuries, while the female victim remains in critical but stable condition. Officials say she is responsive and communicating with her family.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the teenagers were in a crosswalk when the collision occurred. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Investigators have not determined if speed, impairment, or other factors played a role, and no arrests or citations have been issued.
Sanger Unified School District confirmed that both victims were students and expressed condolences to Hsu’s family. Counseling services have been made available at Sanger High School, Sanger West High School, and other district locations to support students and staff.
