Sacramento County, CA – On the evening of Sunday, February 23, 2025, one high school student was killed and another was injured after their vehicle crashed into a tree, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7 PM on Twin Cities Road, west of Alta Mesa Road.
Authorities say the teenage driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip over before colliding with a tree. The impact caused severe injuries to the driver, who was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
A passenger in the vehicle sustained lacerations and was taken to a local hospital. Their condition has not been disclosed. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Lodi High School issued a statement on Monday acknowledging the student’s death and offering condolences to the family and community.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident and has not released further details on what may have led to the crash.
Single-Vehicle Collisions & Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
